IN:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Partit\u00fara Irodalomtudom\u00e1nyi foly\u00f3irat, Volume XVIII. , Issue 1, 2023, p. 33-52 ,\u00a0ISSN 1336-7307<\/span><\/p>\n DOI:\u00a0<\/strong>10.17846\/PA.2023.18.1.33-52<\/p>\n Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n The inspiring influence of Eastern philosophy of religion proves to be a momentous element of the modern Western hermetic, esoteric and occult tradition \u2013 as it is visible in the case of theosophic and anthroposophic doctrines. This approach is both influential in the works of B\u00e9la Hamvas, the outstanding figure of Hungarian hermetic philosophy, and in the poetry of S\u00e1ndor We\u00f6res, who considered Hamvas his \u201cmentor\u201d. The paper focuses on those works of We\u00f6res in which the principles of Western esoteric tradition and Eastern philosophy appear as forming a peculiar mixture. His artistic endeavours towards the transcendental can be illustrated by his philosophical prose, A teljess\u00e9g fel\u00e9 (1945) [Towards perfection], and his poems titled The Constant in the Changing (1938) and Song: Boundless Space (1980). Based on these premises, the art of We\u00f6res is entitled to special attention during the scrutiny of the relationship between modern hermetic tradition and art.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
