Abstract:

Margit Kaffka is usually referred to by the researchers as Magda Szabó’s literary ancestor, although the narrative techniques of their novels have not been compared previously by any of them. In my essay, I would like to compare Margit Kaffka’s novel Colours and Years and Magda Szabó’s novel The Fawn to point out the narrative similarities and differences of presenting the consciousness of the first-person narrators.

Keywords: first-person narrative, autonomous interior monologue, memory narrative, consonant self-narration, dissonant self-narration
