Abstract:

One indicator of school readiness is the level of development of literacy skills. In the following, I will present four tests used in the Hungarian practice to predict children’s literacy and learning abilities at preschool and school entry. I will briefly describe the tests and then group the tests according to the types of tasks included in the different assessment instruments, along which I will review the areas of ability required for literacy acquisition, emphasising their practical aspects. Together, the skill areas and tasks analysed in the different tests can be used to more accurately assess readiness. The types of tasks in the tests can also be used in skills development.
