Abstract:
A szürke ember (The Grey Man) by Viktor Cholnoky has been recognized as the paraphrasis of The Murders in the Rue Morgue. The short story refigures many thematic elements of Poe’s texts, leaving traces as inscriptions. There is a similar connection between Metzengerstein, Poe’s first published short story and Cholnoky’s Olivér lovag (Knight Oliver). The following interpretations try to demonstrate the cultural metamorphoses of the original American short stories.
