Abstract:

In this paper, I compare the Heideggerian and the Gibsonian concept of technology. During the comparison, I use one of the most important study of Heidegger on this topic: The Question Concerning Technology. On the other hand, the matter of comparison is the Sprawl trilogy of William Gibson which is composed of Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Overdrive novels. In devising their theories of technology both Heidegger and Gibson use the concept of art and truth as technology and art are different ways to recognize the world and to unveil the truth. This study is scrutinizing the relationship between these concepts. It tries to go beyond definitions and discovers how these concepts are working in Western cultures.
