Abstract:
The first part of the paper presents the concept of Áron Kibédi Varga’s semiotic study of illustration, which, starting from the basic principles of Morrisian semiotics, interprets the sign relations of the text and illustration series of The Little Prince by separating the levels of morphological, syntactic and semantic meaning carriers, and on the other hand, it points out some questionable points of the theory by placing this concept in the perspective of systematic semiotics. In the second part, based on the conceptual and theoretical framework of Mihály Szívós’ From the Sign to the Code, he attempts to describe the semiotic dimensions of the illustrated work and its illustration as two media that are in a sign-relation with each other.
