Abstract

The study makes an attempt at perceiving the structures of Jewish-Hungarian minority identity as a form of self-representation in the poetry and theoretical comcepts of Aladár Komlós. In the centre of research are the early poems written by Komlós himself, and his intellectual and artistic portrait of the emblematic Jewish-Hungarian poet, József Kiss. Komlós composes in the spirit of the history of ideas (Geistesgeschichte), and as a starting point he uses the term of the collective soul. His József Kiss-portraits were changing in accordance with the actual political and social demands and requirements. Mentioned process is inseparabile from his own poetical withdrawal.
