Abstract:
The subject of my study is the translation of literary realia: how literary realia (poems, stories, songs, etc.), their titles and citations from literary works appear in translations. The study seeks answers to several questions: how can cultural asymmetry be overcome in the translation of literary realia? What can be the intention behind the translator’s decision: to make the source language’s realia familiar to the target language recipient or, on the contrary, to emphasise the foreignness of the translation, to stress that the reader is holding a translation in his hands?
Keywords: literary realia, domestication, cultural asymmetry, open translation
